Jarra is a contemporary reinterpretation of an age-old technique used commonly in the Middle East. It is designed to reintroduce people to the refreshing taste of clay cooled water. Clay is a natural and durable material. Its natural and purifying qualities make it an excellentself-cooling material. When the clay is baked at the right temperature, it will be porous enough for self-cooling. Bacteria can grow in the pores of unglazed products however, which is why ceramics need to be glazed for food safety.This in turn compromises the natural cooling effect.Through the use of special glazing and production techniques, Jarra still cools liquid all while meeting safety standards. The cooling can last up to 4 hours. The longer Jarra sits in the open air - the cooler it becomes.
